About Bethamangala
Bethamangala is a small Village, It is situated in Kolar district, and from Bangarapet Taluk, And from KGF is around 5 miles, and is North east of this lace. Before it was, it was called as Vijayadhitayamangalam. Then has Guttahalli it is now a Rishi, Veda Teacher, was having these classes and it was called has Veda Managalam, and this was called as Bethamangala. From this lake water was been purified and this water was supplied to Kolar Gold Field. This was then named as Kolar Gold Fields water supply. Has according to History, during the period of the Cholas, the king named as Clothunga Chola, he had built a bank around this lake, and that water was used for agriculture and also for drinking purposes. To this lake water from the NANDHI HILLS, and through Kolar , this was vaiya The Palar basin,this was lake called as the Bethamangala. The Hoisala king ‘s Captain SOKIMAYA was in the security of the Nangli borders, during that period 1155 AD, has there was heavy rains , it had changed to flood and he was person who had built the banks of that river. This is was known by the scripts of Father Ben White.
The people who had worked in the KolarGold Fields, were found difficult to drink water as they had drunk water from the waste of the underground. And also the well water, In this situation in the year 1891, there was a disease called Cholera was spread and hundreds of people had dead and following Dr Odaniel, and he was the only doctor, with the a beds of 10 was started in Kolar Gold Fileds in the mining Hospital and they were permitted. Dr Odaniel, went to the residential area of the workers and their families and treated them. To make this KGF area clean and very clean Medical Officer taken Charge and done his duty. His Younger brother, JD Odaniel, was also had an interested to keep this place Hygienic. When it was decided that the drinking water was the reason for this disease Cholera. With the hygienic way with the help of alum, purified water from Bethamangala, in the 1903 to bring this water to KGF, Dr Odaniel was the person. In the same year 1903, as the purification of this water was started , in the year 1904, there was heavy rains and the lake’s banks were broken and this was been built in the year 1905 , 3rd of February, again the water was supplied to KGF. This place was purposely built by the British people for the people of ,In this purification centre there is four types cleaning methods, each one 3.5 feet deep And 17 feet surrounding circle. From here through steel pipe, it is sent to Champion reefs Meter house, from there it supplied to all the five mines, Mysore mine, Champion Reef mine, Dundydoorg mine, Oorgaum mine and Balaghat mine. From there this was supplied to all parts of mine area. As an experienced Doctor of around 25 years, T.J. ODaniel in the year 1910. He was retired and appreciating his service, the King George V, the fifth . the function of the Delhi Durbar in India, he was honored with certification of KAISAR-I-HIND, and with a gold medal. The brother of T.J. Odaniel, J.D. Odaniel was also had a service of around 33 years and then he also retired in the year. 1926. On behalf of their remembrance the road from Anderson pet towards the west , it was named as O’Danel road. Till 2001 that is until the closure of mines the water was supplied perfectly, but slowly the water from Bethamangala purification was stopped. People started to drink tanker waters, they do not were the water had came, or it was pure or not, Because of this reason the people had many diseases such as Psoriases, dengue, malaria. Etc, this is very clear that this is the negligence of the Government of Karnataka.
After a period of 14 years , the Bethamangala, is now over flowing. At least from now the …. Cleaning and at least from now the government can clean and supply water to the people of KGF. dr.d.suresh babu
